Reporting to the *Executive Chef*, the successful incumbent in the position of *Cook* will be responsible for preparing meals for our residents, using standardized recipes and prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities. *THE SPECIFICS* * Employment Term: Permanent * Job Type: Full-Time * Biweekly Hours: 75, including every other weekend * Shift Times include: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. * Work Location and Arrangement: Kingston, ONSITE * Vacancy Status: Existing Vacancy * Compensation: $19.72/hour * AI Disclosure: Artificial intelligence may be used to support the initial screening of applications. Final hiring decisions are made by the hiring manager and are not automated. *PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES* * Prepare daily menu items following standardized recipes and prescribed diets utilizing appropriate food preparation methods, portion sizes, and garnishing and presentation of food to ensure that food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner. * Ensure food is stored in appropriate containers, labeled, and rotated to ensure high standards of freshness, minimize waste, and maximize quality. * Utilize proper food handling techniques at all times. * Monitor the quality and quantity of food supplies. * Follow established procedures for sanitation, safety, and quality assurance. * Daily cleaning and dishwashing duties. * Continuously follow our ?good customer service? principle and ensure that these values are demonstrated in day-to-day practices. *PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS* * Frequently lift up to 50 pounds. * Push, pull wheeled equipment up to 50 pounds. * Bend, kneel, and work with arms raised on a regular basis. * Walk and stand on a variety of surfaces for at least 4 hours per day. *WHO YOU ARE* * Hold a certificate of completion in a two-year community college culinary course or equivalent. * Food Handler Certification is an asset. * Have previous experience preparing food in large quantities. * Computer Savvy. * Strong written and oral English communication skills. * Knowledgeable in Health and Safety and Public Health regulations. * Able to interact effectively with team members, suppliers, residents and families. * Adhere to legislated and Company standards, policies, procedures and practices. * Must be able to provide a police check with vulnerable sector screen upon hire. * Must be able to provide results of TB (tuberculosis) testing (2-step skin test or chest x-ray) upon hire. * Must be able to provide a record of vaccination for COVID-19 (minimum 2 doses) upon hire. *ACCOMMODATION* _In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), accommodations are available throughout the recruitment and selection process upon request._ *Signature* *Retirement Living* is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to recruiting and retaining a qualified workforce, and is committed to hiring practices that are fair and equitable.
