The Okanagan Way!?About the OpportunityThe District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a Climate Action Student based in Lake Country, BC.Reporting to the Manager of Long Range Planning, the student will produce a baseline inventory of community and corporate GHG emissions and a summary report outlining key findings, data gaps, and recommendations. The report may also include suggested reduction targets, monitoring approaches, and internal tracking methods to guide future municipal policy, planning, and resource allocation, supporting evidence-based climate action in Lake Country. The planning student?s primary work will be the research, data analysis, and preparation of reports on a number of planning associated matters.Your responsibilities include, but are not limited: Compile, validate, and analyze community and corporate GHG emissions using existing data and the provincial inventory; Identify key emission sources and data gaps to develop a baseline inventory; Conduct staff interviews while supporting internal and external engagement; Prepare a summary report with findings and recommendations; Provide support to the Planning Team on a variety of associated projects.More About YouTo qualify for this role, you must have completed your first year of a diploma or degree program in a related discipline such as climate science, environmental studies, planning, architecture, with plans to return in the fall of 2026. A valid Driver?s License is required. As our ideal candidate, you have excellent communication skills with the ability to research and analysis data. Strong writing skills with a focus on report writing is required. The position requires you to be self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to think critically.Above all, we value a collaborative attitude and a willingness to learn.About the Benefits You will receive a competitive salary of $23.20 (2026 rates) per hour plus 17.4% in-lieu of all benefits; You may be eligible for a bursary of up to $1000 at the completion of the term; A collaborative, supportive, and inclusive work culture. This position can work up to 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings from May 1 - August 31, 2026 (approximate dates).
