The ideal candidate is an emerging leader with strong mentorship skills and experience in a dynamic local government setting. They will leverage their knowledge of the BC Building Code, RDCK Building Bylaw, and other relevant codes and regulations to serve as a key technical resource for the Building Department team. This individual will help cultivate both hard and soft skills essential for success.This position offers opportunity and exposure to provide building permit services to all types of buildings and occupancy classifications from mixed-use buildings to large industrial facilities. Our service extends over a vast region including 11 electoral areas and building inspection service in 6 of our 9 member municipalities.REQUIRED QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:Significant knowledge and ability to apply BC Building, Plumbing and Fire Codes, Local Government Bylaws and Procedures, Provincial Statutes and Enactments relevant to building construction and property development Post-secondary diploma or degree in Building Sciences, Science or trade certification in Building and/or Plumbing Minimum of 2 years of related supervisory experience Minimum 5 years? experience providing building inspection services Level 3 Certification with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia Level 1 Plumbing Certification with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia RBO and/or BCQ qualification is considered an asset.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESAbility to effectively lead a team, providing direction, training, coaching/mentoring, and performance management as required Demonstrated understanding of the statutory duties of a Building Official under the Community Charter and Local Government Act Considerable knowledge of the BC Building Code, Plumbing Code, National Fire Protection Association Standards and relevant federal, provincial and municipal statutes, regulations and bylaws Demonstrated understanding of BC legal regulatory system and code of ethics for Building Officials Ability to read and interpret building plans, maps, legal descriptions, rights of way, easements and covenants Ability to recognize and provide advice regarding geotechnical matters related to building safetyThis is a full-time position working 35 hours per week. Also included is a comprehensive benefits package. The position may be eligible for enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) as per MPP guidelines.The normal annual entry salary for this position is $92,428 but ranges from $88,410 to $100,466 depending on qualifications and experience.This posting along with a detailed job description can be found on our website at www.rdck/jobs.Applications can be accepted here: APPLY NOW!
