The City of North Vancouver has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a regular full-time exempt Section Manager, Utilities which is an integral role within the Operations Division of our Engineering, Parks and Environment Department. You will report to the Manager, Public Works in this key position and will lead unionized staff. You will manage all aspects of utility operations and maintenance including water systems, sanitary sewer systems and storm drainage (which includes watercourses). You will also manage the collection and disposal of refuse and green waste. You will be responsible for an annual operating budget of approximately $4M and ongoing capital budgets of approximately $7M. What sets you apart is your awareness of the importance of the water supply and sanitation to the community along with your guidance in maintaining a productive and respectful workplace. As a collaborative team builder and team leader with strong problem-solving skills, you possess a track record of implementing best practices and workplace improvements. You are known for your strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, project management expertise, superior communication and interpersonal skills and for your reputation as an excellent manager and leader. You have 10 or more years? public works operations experience, with extensive experience in utilities operations, maintenance and construction. Your demonstrated success in relevant, progressive municipal supervisory roles will ideally be supplemented by a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline such as civil engineering, utility-related trades, or business administration. Candidates demonstrating an equivalent combination of training and experience will also be considered. Your demonstrated success leading unionized positions is essential; along with an understanding of the principles of work planning, asset management, budgeting and cost control. Strong team leadership and superior communication and interpersonal skills, a high work ethic and the demonstrated ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with staff, senior leadership, and the public will ensure your success in this role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe is required, as is familiarity with Infor Public Sector, GIS, AutoCad, PeopleSoft or similar Financial and Asset Management system, along with a valid Class 5 BC Drivers license is required. An EOCP designation, or experience in EOCP requirements will also be beneficial. During the recruitment process, applicants will be requested to provide a current Police Information Check (PIC). We offer an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this exempt position, including a compressed work schedule. The salary range is $126,516 to $147,708 annually (2024 rates).
