People like you!The Equipment Operator 4A position is part of the Parks Development team. This is work in the safe and efficient operation, servicing and minor maintenance of a variety of heavy, mobile construction and maintenance equipment for the Parks Development division. Further duties include driving front-end loaders of under 3-cubic yard capacity, rubber tired mounted hydraulic backhoes, duties include completing daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of the equipment and completing daily written progress reports to record the work performed. Considerable independence of judgment and action is allowed in making field decisions; the work is distinguished from that of an Equipment Operator 3 by the greater difficulty and responsibility in operating heavier and/or more complex equipment. The Equipment Operator 4A will perform related Parks Development division work as required and may be required to perform minor supervisory duties and assist one or more employees performing various duties related to the operation of the equipment. The successful candidate may be required to accept standby and call-out work assignments and operate a vehicle performing snow and ice control work. Performs other related work as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 and considerable related experience in the operation and servicing of heavy construction and maintenance equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of City street layout and departmental operations; of the methods and practices used in servicing, maintaining and making minor repairs to equipment operated. Ability to write simple records and reports and to supervise one or more employees. Good manual dexterity and ability to perform manual work involving considerable physical endurance. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to plan work in order to operate the machinery efficiently and safely.
