The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is pleased to announce they are searching for a permanent full-time Solid Waste Services Coordinator to join their dedicated team. This position offers a salary range of $72,800.00 to $83,574.40 depending on experience, a pension, and a full range of benefits. There is also a well-developed arts and cultural community, recreation facilities and library. Terrace, where the role is located, is the regional retail and service hub for the northwestern portion of British Columbia. The opportunity for adventure is endless in any season. The Kitimat-Stikine region is the traditional homeland of the Tahltan, Nisga?a, Gitxsan, Wet?suwet?en, Heiltsuk, Tsimshian, and Haisla Nations. Spanning a geographic area of 110,000km² the RDKS is home to almost 40,000 people and includes the five incorporated municipalities of Terrace, Kitimat, Stewart, District of New Hazelton and the Village of Hazelton.Purpose Statement: The Solid Waste Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the disposal of controlled and non-controlled waste materials at Regional District waste management facilities, ensuring Regional District solid waste bylaws are followed. The Solid Waste Services Coordinator manages the curbside collection program(s), including contract development, procurement and management, and evaluating the performance of the contractor. The Solid Waste Services Coordinator is responsible for Solid Waste Bylaw updates and amendments, developing policies for safe and efficient customer use of solid waste facilities, and for writing board reports.Direct Reports:None.Major Duties and Responsibilities: Review Controlled and Non-Controlled Waste applications, issue landfill permits, and coordinate waste disposal with facility contractors. Maintain Controlled and Non-Controlled Waste records database, including filing and submission of Hazardous Waste Manifests related to asbestos landfilling. Conduct load inspections at the source or at a RDKS facility to confirm compliance with regulations and RDKS Bylaws. When violations occur, prescribe corrective actions as required. Provide information, training and support to waste haulers and waste generators regarding Controlled and Non-Controlled waste types and management. Manage Curbside Collection Contract, including responding to resident inquiries, maintaining a service-user database, and manage contract renewal processes. Maintain a database of waste tracking data for all waste management facilities, including statistical analysis to track trends in waste generation and diversion. Review, evaluate, and update Solid Waste Bylaws as required. Administer fines and warning letters with curbside collection service-users as required to facilitate compliance with RDKS Bylaws. Manage applications and approvals for curbside programs, such a Medical Waste Exemption and Collection Assistance. Generate board reports as required to provide updates to the RDKS Board of Directors. Respond to inquiries from the public regarding waste acceptance at RDKS facilities. Represent the Solid Waste Department in the Illegal Dumping Working Group, and other waste-related legislation working groups.Working with others:The Solid Waste Services Coordinator will be in contact with contract representatives, subcontractors, consultants, commercial entities, waste haulers, The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strateg
