*Society Profile: *
Seniors Services Society is a non-profit agency located in New Westminster, BC which
provides support services for seniors in New Westminster to live independently, as well
as housing information across BC and outreach services for seniors in the Lower
Mainland.
*Purpose: *
Within the vision and mission statements of the Society, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate and current accounting of all Society funds, consistent with generally accepted accounting principles.
*Position Overview*
SSSBC seeks a part-time accountant to oversee grant compliance, bookkeeping, payroll, and accounts for smooth operational finances. The role involves managing and supporting the finance team, regular communication with the CEO and Managers on program/project finances, adhering to tax and non-profit regulations with attention to detail.
*Key Responsibilities*
· Prepare and file financial and compliance reports to government entities (SSSBC, CRA).
· Prepare monthly financial statements for SSSBC Board of Directors. Reconcile and analyze balance sheet and profit/loss accounts.
· Prepare annual tax returns for SSSBC Society.
· Develop budget-to-actuals for SSSBC programs and core operations.

· Create high-level financial dashboards for SSSBC leadership and Board. Summarize financial performance at project level and explain variances.

· Support Accounts Payable function. Assist with Accounts Receivable collection. Process bi-weekly payroll.
· Lead or assist in financial investigation and reporting. Coordinate with external partners and departments.
· Prepare working papers for external audits.
· Prepare cash flow statements.
· Configure accounting software (SAGE) to automate workflows.
· Review expense reporting practices and internal controls. Make recommendations to strengthen practices. Assist with accounting system enhancements.

· Advise on accounting and tax matters. Review contribution agreements and setup processes/tools for documentation.
· Prepare financial reports for funders based on their requirements.
· Allocate expenses correctly to donors and budget lines.
· Ensure correct allocation of costs across multiple projects.
· Ensure compliance with donor requirements and complete/amortize funding revenue accurately.
· Monitor payroll and expenses for reconciliation. Conduct monthly financial reviews with project managers.
· Manage cost increases requiring approval from funders.
*Qualifications:*
· CPA with 3+ years of experience in a similar role
· Familiarity with Not-for-Profit accounting standards
· Familiarity with international accounting is an asset.
· Demonstrated ability to conduct accounting or tax research as necessary.
· Sound knowledge of CRA requirements to maintain charitable status.
· Proficiency using SAGE Online
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
· Ability to handle confidential information and maintain the highest ethical standards.
· Ability to communicate proactively with stakeholders at various levels across Canada.
· Strong ability to communicate complex financial topics to CEO and senior management.
· Strategic thinking and exceptional problem-solving skills to balance short term requirements with long term organizational goals.
· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
*Job Details:*
This is a part-time regular position ? 22.5hours per week, with the core working hours of Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, some evenings and weekends as needed.
*Compensation:*
Salary will depend on the applicant?s qualifications, experiences, and skillset.
Range of pay: $40.00/per hr. ? $45.00/per hr. based on experience and skillsets.
