The RDN is situated within the traditional territories of several First Nations, including Snuneymuxw, Snaw-Naw-As and Qualicum First Nations and recognizes their rich cultural heritage. They bene?t from inclusive First Nations governance with strong collaboration at all levels in addressing important and pressing issues.About the RoleReporting to the General Manager of Development and Emergency Services, the Manager, Fire Services provides oversight and support to RDN rural volunteer ?re departments provided directly by the RDN, and through agreement with societies and member municipalities. The position effectively oversees, coordinates, and implements E911 and the NextGen911 transition. The Manager, Fire Services will provide leadership and expertise for asset management, ?re hall replacement and apparatus replacement/purchase, including contract development and oversight, and request for proposals. The Manager, Fire services will develop, oversee, and manage the volunteer ?re services and regional ?re program budgets.This is an incredible opportunity for a collaborative ?re services leader with a passion for community service. The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor?s degree in a related discipline such as ?re, emergency management, business administration or related ?eld; with a minimum of ten (10) years related experience in ?re services operations combined with ?ve (5) years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience working within a local or regional government setting and understanding of different governance structures within regional and local governments and society operated ?rehalls. Excellent project management skills and ability to analyze information to make recommendations is advised for this position. The successful candidate will have knowledge of all relevant legislation, including the Fire Safety Act, BC Structure Fire?ghter Training Standard, and other local and provincial legislation.
