District of PeachlandRecreation and Culture Manager The District of Peachland is a vibrant and growing community of approximately 6,200 residents, located on the shores of Okanagan Lake in the scenic Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. We are currently seeking a Recreation and Culture Manager who is a highly motivated and energetic individual to join our Management team. The Recreation and Culture Manager, reporting to the Director of Community Services, is responsible for the leadership of the Recreation and Culture unit. The role includes managing and implementing recreation and cultural programming, facilities and parks programming, aquatics management, as well as community festivals and events management.THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:The ability to lead and manage the safe operations and programming of the District?s community facilities and programs. Ability to coach, counsel, and empower staff with an eye to fostering a collaborative customer-oriented approach to quality service delivery. A proven ability to seek and implement innovative and cost-effective opportunities to grow and strengthen local Recreation and Cultural programming. Skill in developing and implementing a variety of community services, special events, recreational, parks, and cultural programming strategies, goals and objectives to achieve Council?s priorities. Experience in developing, monitoring and evaluating work plans based on goals and objectives established for each area of service. Experience and ability to oversee the safe operations and programming of Peachland?s Swim Bay, including direct supervision of head lifeguards, and oversees approximately 10-15 seasonal lifeguards serving 5,000+ visitors each Summer. Ability to encourage, develop, implement, and maintain partnerships with a wide range of community groups to enhance the provision of services to the community, provide training & development, maximize facility, parks and public spaces, establish new programs & ensure groups are aware of regulatory and legislative matters. Exceptional interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, effective facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Extensive experience in a local government setting is required as is experience consulting with the public and community groups. Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, long-term visioning skills, and a team-oriented leadership style.KEY QUALIFICATIONS:The ideal candidate will posses:Progressive supervisory/management experience in a management position within a local government setting. A Bachelor?s degree in Recreation Management, Culture and Events Management or other related field. Course work and experience in Aquatics Management, Risk Management, and Health and Safety. Experience overseeing land-based and aquatics-based facilities and programs. Experience delivering and leading special events and sponsorship programs. Experience with delivering innovative events and cultural programs. Experience leading teams and building partnerships, including staff, volunteers, and local non-profits. Experience managing and projecting budgets. Experience operating software for facility bookings and membership tracking, such as ActiveNet. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Necessary Special Requirements:Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check. A Valid BC Driver?s License. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year.
