Indigenous Education Resource Teacher-Elementary 0.5 FTE <p>As part of the District Indigenous Education Team, the Indigenous Education Resource Teacher- Elementary provides targeted services to students of Indigenous ancestry. Reporting to the District Principal Indigenous Education, the Indigenous Resource Teacher will enhance the learning environment for students of Indigenous ancestry K-7. Through an inclusive approach to service the Indigenous Education Resource Teacher provides service outlined in the Indigenous Education Enhancement Agreement to classrooms with Indigenous students. The Indigenous Resource Teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers to delivery lessons and share knowledge, supports school-wide learning initiatives, and supports District initiatives that focus on improving Indigenous student achievement. May be required to travel between schools. <p>Functions of the Position: Work collaboratively with school, District and Indigenous Education staff to enhance the school and classroom learning environment for Indigenous students K-7. <p> Develop, plan and implement instructional activities and direct programming to students of Indigenous ancestry in K-7 classrooms. <p> Provide ongoing leadership, advocacy and support for Indigenous learners, as well as Indigenous Education initiatives. Employment Requirements Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent. <p> Proven ability of integrating Indigenous Worldviews and perspectives into instructional practices, as well as utilizing Indigenous ways of learning and teaching. <p> Demonstrated experience working within Ministry of Education and School District policies and guidelines, including educational planning tools, file management, and audit requirements would be an asset. <p> Thorough knowledge of the Indigenous Education Enhancement Agreement. <p> Thorough understanding of colonization and its present-day effects within schools. <p> Ability to establish lasting relationships with students, parents, teachers and administrators. <p> Demonstrated experience working with inquiry-based learning in relation to the redesigned curriculum. <p> Proven ability to develop and implement initiatives targeted at improving the success of Indigenous students. <p> Diverse and innovative experience centred on research-based instruction and assessment practices. <p> Ability to support, monitor and highlight the academic and personal successes of Indigenous learners. <p> Proven leadership, organization and communication skills. <p> Demonstrated experience in evidence-based decision making. <p> Outstanding human relation skills including flexibility, perseverance and creativity. <p> Commitment to advocating for student learning and systemic change. <p> Preference will be given to qualified candidates of Indigenous Ancestry Application Details: <p>Term: Ongoing, effective September 1, 2024 (0.5 FTE) <p>Application Details: Please apply through Make a Future and send a cover letter, resume together with professional credentials <p>Deadline: No later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 21, 2024 <p>The Burnaby School District values inclusion and embraces diversity as a strength.
