*The Bread and Butter of the Position:*
*Position Overview:* We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager to join our team at Portofino Bakery. The OHS Manager will play a critical role in strengthening and implementing comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures across our bakery and warehouse facilities in Victoria, BC, with occasional travel to our Vancouver warehouse. Reporting to the *Human Resources Director* our *Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager *is responsible for:
*Key Responsibilities:*
· Develop and implement a comprehensive occupational health and safety program tailored to the specific needs and operations of Portofino Bakery, including policies, procedures, and training materials.
· Conduct thorough assessments of the current safety practices and identify areas for improvement across all locations.
· Establish and maintain effective communication channels with management, employees, and relevant stakeholders to promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance.
· Lead by example in the implementation of safety protocols, ensuring adherence to regulations and best practices.
· Collaborate with managers and supervisors to assess risks and implement effective safety measures in all areas of the bakery and warehouse operations.
· Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
· Ensure all equipment has proper Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conduct regular reviews to keep them up to date.
· Conduct ergonomic assessments regularly to ensure workstations are optimized for employee health and safety.
· Develop and deliver training programs for employees on safety procedures, emergency response, and hazard recognition.
· Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop strategies for prevention at all locations.
· Maintain accurate records and documentation related to health and safety activities, including incident reports, training records, and safety inspections.
· Stay informed about changes in OHS legislation and industry best practices and ensure that Portofino Bakery remains compliant with all applicable regulations.
· Lead safety committee meetings at the Victoria locations and participate in safety-related activities at the Vancouver warehouse as needed.
· Coordinate with external agencies, such as WorkSafeBC, and represent Portofino Bakery in OHS-related matters at all locations.
