*Purpose of the position:*
The Equestrian Instructor of Hope Haven Therapeutic Riding Centre is accountable for the program planning and teaching or assisting in teaching the adaptive riding and horsemanship lessons. This person applies Equestrian Canada as well as CanTRA/ Path Int. practices to the planning and development of a progressive lesson plan that addresses the goals and objectives of each individual participant. Hope Haven Instructors report to the Program Manager.
*Responsibilities*
* To plan and implement a progressive lesson plan for each individual participant and assist other instructors in their lessons when requested
* To assess and review participant files before the beginning of each season to ensure all files are complete and to familiarize themselves with the participant.
* To assess and assign the appropriate horse and volunteer team to each participant together with the Equine Manager and Volunteer Coordinator respectively, and adjust or change when necessary based on horse, participant and volunteer compatibility at the time
* Oversee the preparation of horses for their lessons
* Supervises volunteers who are working with them in their lessons and assign tasks appropriately
* Assists in the schooling and training of the horses under the direction of the Equine Manager
* Participates in the ongoing training of volunteers as opportunities arise during lessons
* Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times to ensure safety standards are being met
* Prepares end of season progress reports for participant development
* Audits participant files to ensure they are up-to-date and complete
* Must ensure that all upgrading is up-to-date and qualifications are on file
* Provides input when requested into the creation of organizational policies and procedures
* Upholds organizational standards in a congenial respective manner
* Ensures that all incidents are reported and protocol is followed
* Participates in awareness opportunities to promote Hope Haven programs
* Participates in both instructor and full staff meetings and workshops as required
*Qualifications:*
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* A strong problem solver with a ?can do? attitude who is able to work effectively in a busy environment
* Exemplifies the core values, mission and purpose of Hope Haven when interacting with clients, staff, volunteers and community partners
* Excellent organizational skills
* Able to work independently and harmoniously as part of the Hope Haven Team
* Experience working with individuals with a disability is an asset
*Education and Training:*
* One of the following certifications at minimum: Equestrian Canada Instructor of Beginners, CanTRA CTRBI, or PATH Int. CTRI (Consideration given if ready to attempt one of those certifications)
* Equestrian Canada, CanTRA and/or PATH Int. member in good standing
* Minimum of High School Diploma, post secondary preferred
* First Aid/CPR certification up-to -date
* Training with disabilities population an asset
Job Type: Part-time
