Job details
Education: Bachelor's degree. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Forest industry. Tasks: Develop programs for tree seedling production and woodlands nursery operations. Plan and direct forest surveys and related studies. Prepare reports and recommendations. Supervise tree seedling production and woodlands nursery operations. Conduct advanced research in the areas of tree improvement, nursery seedling production, forest soils, forest ecology, forest mensuration, forest operations and other areas. Develop and oversee programs for tree seedling production and woodlands nursery operations. Ensure adherence to government regulations and company objectives. Establish short- and long-term plans for management of forest lands and forest resources. Monitor contract compliance and results of forestry activities. Negotiate terms and conditions of agreements and contracts for forest harvesting, forest management and leasing of forest lands. Plan and conduct public relations programs, and education and extension programs related to forestry. Plan and direct forest surveys and related studies and prepare reports and recommendations. Plan and direct road building, wildlife management, environmental protection and insect and vegetation control programs. Plan and direct woodlands harvesting, reforestation, silviculture and fire prevention and fire suppression programs. Provide advice and recommendations, as a consultant on forestry issues, to private woodlot owners, municipal, provincial or federal governments or to companies. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Forest Engineer with registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.). Registered Professional Forester (RPF). Computer and technology knowledge: Geographic Information System (GIS). Additional sector experience: Forestry. Area of work experience: Research and development. Specialization or experience: Specialized environmental skills and knowledge. Area of specialization: Forest biology and ecology. Forest engineering and harvesting.
