Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Installation. In shop. Service. Various locations. Repair. On-site fabrication. Tasks: Measure and mark sheet metal according to template. Prepare tenders and quotations. Operate laser cutters. Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces. Schedule work. Calculate heating and cooling loads, design duct systems and select equipment for residential and small commercial construction. Inspect products to ensure quality and conformity to specification. Operate plasma cutters. Assemble, erect and install hoisting and rigging equipment. Estimate costs and materials. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Fit and join sheet metal parts. Install sheet metal products according to specifications and building codes. Specialization or experience: Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Sheeting and cladding. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination.
