Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. Work site environment: Noisy. Work setting: Commercial. Tasks: Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning oil burners, and their components and controls. Lay out oil burner heating system components and assemble components using hand and power tools. Test installed unit and adjust controls for proper functioning. Perform scheduled maintenance and service. Install oil burner components and connect to fuel supply, ventilation and electrical system. Install, maintain and repair coal and wood heating systems. Instruct apprentices. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Oil Burner Mechanic (Residential) Red Seal Certificate. Type of heating system: Oil. Equipment and machinery experience: Burners. Engines. Oil primary control. Pumps. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Driver's validity licence check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Handling heavy loads. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Attention to detail. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Dependability. Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years.
