Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work setting: Nursery school. Kindergarten. Tasks: Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers. Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest. Order supplies and equipment. Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods. Knowledge of licensing regulations. Establish guidelines for behaviour. Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children. Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants. Supervision: 3-4 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate. First Aid Certificate. CPR Certificate. Security and safety: Basic security clearance. Criminal record check. Medical exam. Transportation/travel information: Public transportation is available. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Repetitive tasks. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Personal suitability: Punctuality. Dependability. Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication. Excellent written communication.
