Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Mechanical engineering/mechanical technology/technician. Work setting: Various locations. International level. Tasks: Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect defects. Establish NDI techniques and calibration standards. Set up and operate radiographic equipment. Develop and interpret radiographic film. Calibrate, test and interpret ultrasonic equipment. Set up, calibrate, operate and interpret magnetic particle, eddy current, liquid penetrant, acoustic emission, and infrared thermographic equipment. Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations. Maintain test result reports. Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : CWB Welding Inspector Certification Level 2. Welding techniques: Boilers. Testing equipment and methods: Radiographic. Liquid penetrant. Magnetic particle. Acoustic emission. Visual inspection. Nondestructive testing. Ultrasonic. Equipment and machinery experience: Welding. Area of work experience: Hydro and utilities. Oil or gas pipelines. Specialization in physics: Analysis and non-destructive testing. Transportation/travel information: Willing to travel regularly. Travel expenses paid by employer. Willing to travel internationally. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment.
